~ Flimsy Alert! ~ Harmony

"Harmony" is 96 x 107 inches, and is a Nancy Rinks pattern.

I got mine as a Block of the Month kit, intended for one of our guest beds as soon as I get it quilted. The applique was done by machine after turning the edges over freezer paper templates. My least favorite technique, but there was zero room for needle-turning time in my time frame.

This generous queen size top is HEAVY! Which made it surprising that this morning's breeze made it dance so much that we never could get a straight photo of it.

Now, if I can just find where I stored the backing . . . and get my Dinner Plate Dahlia quilted and off the longarm, this will be ready for its turn!  :)

BOMs Away - Harmony & Birds

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

Wasn't feeling my greatest this weekend, but I did get three more colors of birds stitched down:

Also, all the bird bodies are finally fused, and I started on the wings, which mark the high temps of each day. 4 rows down, 27 to go. . .

The lower left corner of my wall board is blaringly empty now, because I started on the Month 8 Octave work, which is to incorporate all the blocks into borders that will go around the central star.

The pattern has you use over-sized setting triangles, so I need to trim some ends before pinning the next connections.

BOMs Away - Lotsa Goodness

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

Boy, I was able to square away a lot of BOM work this weekend!

First, here's my finished Sonata Star for the center of my Harmony BOM quilt:

I still need to trim the outer edges, but Scott was using my cutting table today.

Then, I got the month 5 sewing finished for the Neptune BOM:

(top portion made and attached to the 16 wedges)

I got two months of Temperature dots turned and glued onto their backgrounds:

(Marissa's wedding last month supplanted this work, so I had double this time)

And finally, I stitched down quite a few bird bodies for Heather & Pat's quilt, getting through the first four thread colors on the bricks I've fused so far.

I've fused half of the bricks needed for the quilt. I left the wings for after I've stitched the bodies, so that I don't need to secure my starts and stops. I personally hate "invisible" thread for applique work, so to me the effect I get with different threads is worth the change-over - especially in a situation like this.

Plus, we went to the movie theater again this weekend!

I'm looking at this page thinking, "How the heck did I get so much done??"

I'll take it!

Particularly since I'm feeling bogged down with the work on my longarm and piecing priority projects. They're each SO INTENSE and never-ending, it was very nice to put them to rest Friday evening and look at completely different things all weekend.

BOMs Away Monday - Harmony and Temperature Birds

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

Oh, boy!  Don't you love it when you get to a point in a BOM where you're assembling components into large portions of the quilt?!

Lots of good work on Harmony this weekend. I got very close to finishing the Month 7 Sonata work.

Put the diamonds together:

And got a good portion of the assembly with half of the set-ins sewn:

I'm saving the pressing of the set-ins until I have all 8 in place, to avoid distortion on the bias edges.

I would have finished the entire star, but I decided going to a movie - Actually going to the theater for a new release! (Black Widow) - was too good to pass up. And then we Zoomed with Devon & Cory for an hour or so, which was really nice. They've had fun getting a nursery all put together for our first grandbaby. Exciting times.  :)

Yesterday I hit the bird bricks for Heather & Pat's temperature quilt that I'm hoping to use for an anniversary present in December. I got 1/4 of the way through fusing down the bird bodies on those.

These are clipped by rows, and it's funny that we only see a few of the blues. There are several lavenders, purples, teals, and greens in there, too, but the leading bricks for each row (Dec 16th - March something) are all only from the blue spectrum.

Haven't started stitching any yet. It'll likely be my Saturday project for the next couple of months. The left birds mark the lows of each day here in Monument for the first year of their marriage, and the right birds marks the lows of each day in Aurora. They lived an hour apart for the first two years of her med school days, so this quilt speaks of their newlywed story.

BOMs Away - Harmony

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project

(Linky at the bottom)

Happy 4th of July to all y'all in the U.S.

One day I'm going to make this pattern that I've had for many years. . .
"Patriotic Rose," by Janet Miller

I was all excited about my BOM work this weekend, thinking I had all the components ready now to assemble the eight arms of the central star for my "Harmony" quilt:

But, "Oh, bother!"

I sewed two of the sets together the wrong way around. Man! And all my points were so perfect!

The eight-count set of 4-patches on the top and the 4-patch set on the left all have to have their final seams redone.

Oh, well. Time with Jack at the TV. Slow time with Jack, as all these seams are completely on the bias, and I don't want my pieces warped. . .

Edit:
There!  This is what they're supposed to be like - all fixed.

BOMs Away - Harmony "Crescendo" blocks

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

Hi!  I finished all four "Crescendo" applique blocks for my Harmony BOM:

And more importantly, I got the taxes done!

Thank goodness for the extra month this year. I just didn't have the energy to work these up before I got the COVID vaccinations - On Saturday, 10 days after the second shot, I suddenly had so much more energy than before! I still need to test and see if I can do cardio workouts, but for the first time since getting Covid in October, I actually felt that impatience while sitting - that "I can't just sit here, I've got to get up and do something!" feeling!!!!

Until now, it's been an exercise in forcing myself to work through cement and molasses to do anything at all, a stretching out of how long I could last against the slog, but never a feeling of energy available and eager to go. I'm not quite 100% pre-Covid me, but at least 85% now, and the last three days I've only needed short sitting breaks after long physical work stretches. My house is getting reclaimed after seven months of serious neglect, and it    FEELS GOOD!

Sooooo grateful I decided to vaccinate! I did luck out and my body has learned something about fighting the long-Covid. Here's to hoping that the inability to fight it away has been my problem all along, and not actual permanent damage to my heart and vascular system!

BOMs Away - Temperature Quilt & "Harmony"

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project

(Linky at the bottom)

Wow - we're already at the last BOMs Away of March! I can't believe that.

I did the Month 5 sewing for my "Harmony" BOM.

Here are the Forte blocks:

I also did all the finish work on the pile of dots from the past 4 weeks and got those sewn together in their rows:

BOMs Away - Finishing a Gift, More Dots, and some Harmony

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

We got some serious snow today, and it's not stopped yet. Made for good BOM working time!

(But not for good chow time outside - this little guy entertained us with his multiple punchings and drillings into the snow bank to find the food stash underneath. It was at least two feet deep on top of the seed bin Scott keeps on the ground for the squirrels so they'll leave the pole feeders for the birds.)

I finished the 16 flying geese arc units for Neptune's Gift:

Prepped the next set of Temperature dots:

and sewed the four Month 4 "Chorus" blocks for Harmony:

All in all, pretty good!

BOMs Away - Harmony

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

Hello there! Have you given your BOM-type project(s) attention lately?

This weekend I worked on my "Harmony" BOM -

Month 2's Melody blocks:

Month 3's Rhythm blocks:

and another smattering of leader-ender duples for the checkerboard border later on:

I also put together the next 8 temperature dots:

So much for our super-freeze this week. . . no purples here! In fact, a lot of warm greens!

I put the fire on tonight purely for this photo.  :D

Now it's your turn to share any BOM type work you've done lately.

BOMs Away - Getting a little "Harmony" going . . .

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

Hello  :)

It's always so fun when I get to start sewing on a new BOM in my active rotation.

This one is really fun, too -

"Harmony," by Nancy Rink has a creative breakdown of the 9 months of work, all playing with the musical theme of the quilt's name:

So, I got my tempo established and made the first set of four blocks:

I usually use this stack of paper piecing units to my left as leader-enders while I'm sewing:

But this BOM has two checkerboard rows in the later Octave work, and I decided to use those squares, instead, as I'm working on this BOM.  I'm keeping them over on my right, so they don't get mixed up with the pieces from the blocks.

There are quite a lot of them, and I won't relish doing them all at once. This way, a lot of that work will be taken care of when I get to month 8.

I have a handful of pairs done up already.  :)

I hope you had a nice weekend.

BOMs Away - ~*~ Flimsy Alert! ~*~ Water Reflections, and some Harmony

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

Whoop!!  It's been a marathon BOM weekend!

First, I completely finished the Water Reflections top:

I really like the Impressionist feel it has in real life.

And then I got my new BOM, Harmony, *completely* cut out,

except for the exact length of the outer borders! Well, and the applique pieces, but I do back-basting, so I don't cut them out ahead of working them.

This baby is organized into baggies for each of the 9 months of work, ready to go for easy sewing when its turn comes up on the weekends.

I'm feeling well accomplished at the moment.  :)

Didn't mean for that to happen. But it did.

 Oh, dear.

Grief is not conducive to sticking to no-purchase resolves. I caved on two quilts that have been calling to me all year.

Sage & Sea Glass Star Chain quilt, by Kim Diehl, using her fabric line of the same name:

And Harmony, by Nancy Dink, which will be perfect on the bed of the basement room:

And now I found the pattern for this one, and it would be a great use of all the Halloween scraps I have. Wonder if I have enough of something for the background on hand already. . . "Scaredy Cat" by Jedi Craft Girl.

So, three quilts screaming at me, two purchases. I guess it could have been worse. . .

And it's cheaper than a psychologist, eh?
