I got my Hello, Moon put together today:

 

 

 

 

The sashing is a sparkly light-gray Fairy Frost fabric that was in my stash - in fact, I'm really happy that everything for this quilt came from stash. I can even find something for the back, and definitely have enough batting. No shopping for this project!

 

The sashing is set at a width for the quilting design I'll be doing on this.  Can't wait to see the effect when I can finally get to it.  :D    I did want to work up a border, but that will make it too large for the spot I want to hang it in. So I may end up trimming the outer sashes down and hoping that if I make the binding a little wider than I usually do, it'll frame it in nicely. I think it will.

 

 

Oh! We filled the last hole in our family a couple of days ago. Isabeau is here now - the cutest little Fluff Ball I've ever seen! You can't see her pretty sky-blue Ragdoll eyes here, and her LONG fur is all licked down uncharacteristically flat, but sometime soon I'm sure I'll catch them for you. Such a pretty little thing. Navarre fell instantly in love with what he thinks is the coolest toy in the world - a warm, moving, cotton-fluff-ball delight brought home especially for him. . .  (lol)

BOMs Away - Kitties, Moons, and Hearts

First of all, we've had some more family changes. Some of you remember that we lost our Siamese, Koko, a week before Thanksgiving. Well, we also lost our gorgeous calico at the end of December. We miss you, Selma! You were a truly fabulous kitty and beloved member of our family for 13 years.

 

 

 

 

So, with heavy hearts and empty spots in the family, we recently stopped at a shelter and adopted this gorgeous little guy. His name is Navarre, and he's an amazing DYNAMO! Soooo friendly, instantly loving every person he meets with all his little heart. He's incredibly smart, and a perfect gentleman who's never once had a litter mishap.  :)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now, about BOMs. . .  This week I made my last two "Hello, Moon" blocks. 

 

 

 

 

 

I ended up going with the cow that Heidi came up with instead of the fox in the original BOM group. I love that fox! I wanted both blocks, and had decided I'd figure out a 13-block setting, until I couldn't find a single fabric I liked for the fox. So I stuck with the cow replacing the 12th slot.

 

So here's my full set, which means next month I get to mess with a setting!

 

 

 

 

And, of course, little Navarre had to "help"!

 

 

 

 

During the week, I got the embroidery added onto the two other blocks that I appliqued on the cruise. Block 4 and Block 5:

BOMs Away - Oct 28 - Hello, Moon; Ruffled Roses & a Tip for Applique Panel Trimming

I just finished trimming the latest Hello, Moon blocks. There were 2 this time around since April Mae caught us up to October. I love this BOM and appreciate her graciousness in sharing it for free.  :D

 

 

 

 

 

I also managed to keep my Ruffled Roses up-to-date with my goal for this month since I moved it into my evening sewing slot the past week. I finished all the hand quilting I'd hoped to accomplish for Kelly's quilt this month, and a cut on my finger was making it painful to keep quilting past that point. Worked out fine this way, because I'm out of October Sundays!  ;D

Here's a tip for trimming applique panels:

 

These cornerstone backgrounds were originally cut about 1 inch too large to allow for any shrinkage during the stitching process. Once they were finished and pressed well, I wasn't sure how to make sure I cut them exactly as they were supposed to be - until I remembered this tip that I think I saw at Erin's blog once. 

 

I lined two sides of my square ruler up on the pattern and traced the outlines with a dry-erase marker right onto my ruler.

 

 

Then all I needed to do was lay the outlines down on the block, and voila! Perfect alignment to do the trimming.  I'm a happy woman.  ;D

 

 

 

 

And erasing the marks on the ruler is easy - just grab some quilting shrapnel and wipe it off!  (But I'm saving this until I finished the last one.)

This one just makes me grin. :D   Especially as my cousin lives in Roswell, New Mexico. She would love this!

 

This was finished so early, if it weren't Scott's birthday I'd get a bunch more setting work finished on Selvages. But being the day it is, I'd rather set my attention elsewhere.  ;D

It works out perfect for me that April Mae hasn't posted the next Hello, Moon block yet. (Hope she's just a busy-busy mom taking care of her gang at a crazy time of year for young families.) We just did a 1902-mile moving trip in a 36-hour stretch after a busy week of getting Heather ready to move back to college for her senior year. Exciting and nerve-wracking times for her as she awaits news for med-school applications/interviews. I'm hoping and praying for the best match possible!  So this was a great time to just focus on catching up all my previous blocks:

Got a hodge podge of work done on BOMs this week -

Dear Jane:  WOOHOO~~!!!!   I finished the LAST BLOCKS!!!!

First I finished the embroidery on the signature corner. I finished counting everything on my spreadsheet as it will be in the final assembly to get the total number of pieces (I currently have 5006 sewn together), and I changed "War Time" to "Time of Change" to fit my situation.  The two years I've spent piecing all the squares and triangles have seen great transformations for our family, as the two older kids entered college, we made a cross-country move after 15 years in one home (the longest I've ever lived anywhere) into an entirely different geography and climate, and then the youngest had a custody change which brought her into our home on a primary basis. 

And last, I stitched M-13 together. It really tickled me for this to be the final block I made, as it's called "Lynette's Diamond."  :D

But I'm so antsy to get this all together! So I also put together the 12 sashing rows that I'll need as I assemble my inner blocks:

Hello, Moon: I fused the June cricket and the July camping blocks and got the scribble stitching finished. Still need to embroider all the cute little smileys and details on them.

Block Swap Adventure: Sneak peaks of the two blocks that will start their journey up to Canada tomorrow.

Hello! A bit late here - I hope you had a good weekend. We enjoyed a nice hike around Spruce Mountain.

The trail head starts in meadowland with a nice view of Eagle Mountain.

I got the rest of the revealed "Hello, Moon!" blocks fused.

And five more Baby Janes - leaving only 11 to make. I really can't believe my Dear Jane blocks are almost all finished! 

So far this quilt has exactly 4500 pieces of fabric stitched together. . .
