Other than my family, the passion of my life is quilting. An eclectic, I love a wide variety of styles and techniques encompassing both machine and hand work. I am a longarm quilter who can work for you. I enjoy any style, from pantographs to all-over to full custom, ranging from traditional to modern. I love bringing vintage tops to life and am willing to work with a challenging quilt top. Instagram: lyncc_quilts

BOMs Away Monday - Beachwalk is Moving Right Along Now!

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Hey, hey! This quilt is getting close to a finish!

I have only 1 and 2/3 panels left to quilt on the Beachwalk BOM, that was sitting as a UFO in my Flimsies Closet for a good eight years. I'm so glad it called to Devon for her wedding quilt!

I'm very happy to report that the final quilting is going So Much Easier than the trapunto work did. For one thing, all but a couple of pieces that had lifted off were stitched down during that first stage of the quilting, so, of course, this second stage is much simpler to attack just on that account.

TIP FOR LONGARMING FUSIBLE APPLIQUE LAYERS:

The longarm ball point needle - FFG - works wonderfully on the multiple fused layers, with no cutting of threads, and I haven't had any issues at all with the needle getting sticky and doing skipped stitches. Nor am I seeing any batting punched through on the back. I've used the size 18 for the Glides and Aurifils, and size 16 for the Microquilters. I do notice that the non-cotton threads work more smoothly with this fussy fusible that didn't like permeating the fabric which hadn't been prewashed.

How about you? Has any BOM type work been happening there?
Sure would love to see!

BOMs Away - Water Reflections

I hope you're all doing well right now.

I needed a break today from my priority quilting work,
so I put together the Month 4 blocks for my "water Reflections" BOM:

I love "mindless" piecing at times!

BOMs Away - Let's Go on a Beachwalk!

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Hi!  Check it out!

I finished ALL the trapunto work for Devon & Cory's "Beachwalk" quilt!

I also got the backing fabric washed and ironed, ready to cut and seam tomorrow. . .

. . . and get loaded on the frame. Time for the "real" quilting work to begin!

So, the bits of quilting done already in the center have pulled in just enough to put a little fullness in the borders that didn't use to be there. No biggie. I'll just need to address that as I work through the stabilization round of the quilting. It's only when I'm going to be doing pantograph work that these can be a real pain.

Woohoo!!   Let's go!!  :D

BOMs Away - Wind in the Whiskers & Beachwalk

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

It's a McKenna Ryan projects overload week! Hehe  :)

I traced onto fusible all the pieces for the last block of my "Wind in the Whiskers" quilt, and even got a good start on putting them onto their fabrics:

And on "Beachwalk," I got all the trapunto work finished for two more panels -

The sandpipers and boat and pampas grass,

and then the bicycle and lighthouse,

and the beach chairs panel.

I've been working on the panels in order of hardest to easiest, in terms of how much work is needed and how many of its pieces are about to fall off. It's getting there!

Next panel will be the one with the shrimp boat and a pelican and bunches of buoys on pier posts.

1, maybe 2 more weeks of trapunto work, and then it'll be on to the final quilting stage!!  Woohoo!

This quilt is making me gain weight, though!

I'm on a timeline, so except for Sunday breaks with other BOM work, I can't set it aside and work on another quilt for a breather. So I have to task-drive myself, and the rewards I usually find most motivating are delicious treats like slices of cheesecake. . . .

So.... it'll be a good thing when this is finished and I can go back to my usual mode of working that allows for fresh "scenery" when the Mojo needs it!

BOMs Away - Beachwalk Trapunto cont.

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Hello!

It's been a low-key weekend for me. I'd intended to trace out the fusible pieces for the koi pond block on my Wind in the Whiskers BOM, but I was in the groove for recording and editing some chapters for LibriVox audiobooks. Since I was spending several hours on those, I didn't want to pull out a mess that wouldn't get finished before the weekend was over. So I'll do those next weekend.  :)

What my screen looks like while I'm doing that.

But my "Beachwalk" BOM is what hets all my priority quilt making time during thw week these day, and I did get all the trapunto work finished for the hollyhocks and hummingbird panel this week. . .

You won't see the effect of the trapunto work on the front side until it is quilted - then it really makes a very nice difference, particularly on these McKenna Ryan quilts. The multiple layers of fusible pieces tend to stiffen too much to yield dimension during normal quilting.

. . . and I finished the jellyfish panel.

Can you see the iridescence of some of the tentacles?
It's so pretty in real life!

I hate how dulling this task has to be on my little 4-inch Gingher curved-tip serrated embroidery scissors - - my all-time favs for applique work - - but there really is no other tool that is good for this finicky job.

It is a long and painstaking process, as I really don't want to snip the fabric when I'm trimming away the excess batting. Each of those sections took 13-14 hours to get the pieces stitched down, the tails all tied and tucked through, and then the batting trimmed.

Quite often, I use dense quilting around focal points to get the effect of trapunto, but that doesn't work when you don't don't want dense background quilting.

Plus, the layered fusible on this one (we're talking 8 or 9 layers in places!) would never puff up without real trapunto, no matter how dense you quilted around them. So, I do this step before quilting my McKenna projects.

I'll be working on the bicycle/lighthouse panel next.

Evening stitching time has gotten me 4 alt-colored corners and 2 full sides of binding stitched down on Heather's Graduation Dahlia that I did as a Technique of the Month last year. I'm eager to be able to do a finish report photo op for this quilt!!
