Other than my family, the passion of my life is quilting. An eclectic, I love a wide variety of styles and techniques encompassing both machine and hand work. I am a longarm quilter who can work for you. I enjoy any style, from pantographs to all-over to full custom, ranging from traditional to modern. I love bringing vintage tops to life and am willing to work with a challenging quilt top. Instagram: lyncc_quilts

BOMs Away - ~*~ Flimsy Alert! ~*~ Water Reflections, and some Harmony

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

Whoop!!  It's been a marathon BOM weekend!

First, I completely finished the Water Reflections top:

I really like the Impressionist feel it has in real life.

And then I got my new BOM, Harmony, *completely* cut out,

except for the exact length of the outer borders! Well, and the applique pieces, but I do back-basting, so I don't cut them out ahead of working them.

This baby is organized into baggies for each of the 9 months of work, ready to go for easy sewing when its turn comes up on the weekends.

I'm feeling well accomplished at the moment.  :)

BOMs Away - Down the Rabbit Hole, Water Reflections

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

Yay! I stitched down the two remaining large leaping rabbits:

They're each about as big as our cat, actually! And it still tripped me out how long it took to stitch them. Four and a half hours for both.

My big working table has been hijacked by my Amaya collage quilt project, pushed partially aside for the holiday weekend for Scott's work, so I couldn't get the four standing rabbits set onto the other borders or figure out which fabrics I want to use for the various flowers around all the rabbits. . .

So, I got a head start on the Month 6 piecing work for next weekend's BOM, Water Reflections:

Time to make all the filler portions and put the blocks and center medallion all together!

I hope you had a decent Christmas. Ours was very quiet with just the two of us, but man, that ham was good! I ordered one from a local ranch and the reputation did not lie - that was the best ham I've ever had. Store hams will never be real to me after this.

BOMs Away - Reflections & Rabbits

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

Wow! My work energy is SIGNIFICANTLY improved as compared to 3 weeks ago, when I last worked on the month 5 sewing for my Water Reflections BOM.  (At least for sit-down work. I still get ridiculously winded when I do anything standing, let alone involving stairs. . . )

First I made the remaining patches,

Which, added to the ones made last time around, grew up to become these sets of blocks,

And with top/bottom rows of random squares, became the quilt center:

I had no idea I'd be able to finish that much work, so I'm a super happy BOM camper right now.

Also, during the work week I snuck in time to do more on the leaping rabbits from last weekend, because all those little pieces that took forever to sort out and organize were out on my table - not to be trusted as safe, with Navarre around! (Plus, I wanted that mess cleared away.)

So now, two leaping rabbits are completely stitched, and the other two are all glued on, ready for stitching when that BOM's turn comes up again. (The photo above shows correct colors. These guys below didn't stay true with night-time lighting.)

My work-week priority project is not a Christmas quilt, but the colors in these blocks sure are perfect for December attention, aren't they?

They make me happy.  They'll grow up this week to become the Jinny Beyer "Kashmir" quilt top. I really need to start blogging all my work again, instead of just the weekend BOM times. . .

BOMs Away - Water Reflections

Welcome to the Link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

Where we share what we're doing on a BOM type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom)

So, I did get some sewing machine BOM work done, finally! I had done almost half of the work on these blocks for the Month 5 sewing of my Water Reflections BOM. These are all 3" finished blocks.

The navy speckle fabric provided in the kit ran out before the little squares did, so I had to sneak in 5 of them from something in my stash that approximates the look. Looking at this photo, I'm thinking that was successful enough for my happiness.

Month 5 actually is the entire central "medallion" portion of the quilt so there's quite a bit more sewing to happen for this part of the BOM.

Between this work and the bits of cleaning I've been doing, I am supremely worn out. So I believe I'm going to watch a show right now and then take a real l-o-n-g nap (which may just turn into down for the night even thought that'll be 1:30 in the afternoon). Covid recovery when you have Lupus is a frustratingly long process!

Yep, dude, I feel you. . .

BOMs Away - A Long-Ago Sunday for Norma and some BOM dabblings

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Kinda just putzing through this week. The service for Scott's Mom will be on Tuesday. We've been scanning in lots of photos to put together a nice digital display for everyone to enjoy. I really like the happiness on her face in this one, as well as the super cute Easter Sunday outfit, circa 1958.

BOM stuff:

A couple of weeks ago, I fused the last block down for my Wind in the Whiskers. Cute little koi pond. Don't think I posted it yet, though.
(The kitten tail and lower bush edges are left loose, as they will straddle the border seam.)

Today, I made the four 3D butterflies and attached them for the Kitten Kaboodle block.
Oh, and I also made pupils for these kittens. There weren't any in the pattern, and they all looked freaky without any.

So now, this project is ready to be fully assembled into a complete flimsy!  It only has 2 borders, and I would love to just throw it all together this week and have a nice accomplishment to carry me through the upcoming hard days. However, Scott's using my cutting table to finish up the photo tasking - spread all over it, and I'm not about to ask him to let me move him. Ah, well, it'll be a nice Feel-Good accomplishment next weekend.

Oh, also, through this week's TV time, I've done the applique stitching on two more of the Month 4 squares for the Water Reflections BOM. 1 block left to go.

I know I've only been sharing BOM stuff for months now, but that's not at all reflective of the bulk of my quilting work. There's always a priority quilt that gets 99% of my time each week. I need to do at least 4 write-ups on finishes.

The last 3 weeks, though, what you've seen is what has happened. I'll probably move through another week of numbness and seeing only to the basic tasks of daily living. I think I'll use the final assembly of Wind in the Whiskers as my marker for the time to return to normal quilting operations. And I'm dubbing it absolutely OK for that to happen when it happens.

BOMs Away - a Wedding and a Block

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

(Linky at the bottom.)

Look what happened this weekend!

We're so thrilled with our newest family member, Cory.
His vows to our daughter totally made me cry.

And that's why BOMs Away is late this week.

I did finish the applique stitching for the first Month 4 block of Water Reflections:

So that's *something* quilty to share today. Heh!

I'll try to get their wedding quilt written up for Friday this week.

I hope you're all doing well right now.

I needed a break today from my priority quilting work,
so I put together the Month 4 blocks for my "water Reflections" BOM:

I love "mindless" piecing at times!

BOMs Away - Water Reflections and Heather's Graduation Dahlia

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Hello!

I felt like taking a break from longarming or trapunto edgestitching, so I whipped up these Month 3 blocks for my "Water Reflections" BOM:

Only 2 tasks remain for the quilting of Heather's Graduation Dahlia - finish the matchstick fill behind the scroll background fields, and do the CC cross-hatch fill on the Caduceus tips. It'll be off the longarm before week's end!!  Woohoo  :D

I'm glad we're having a mild-ish summer this year! If this week's 85-96 highs have been taxing me as much as they have (we don't have A/C in this house), I'm sure happy we haven't been topping 100! I need to get tape roll refills for my hair-removing roller for the next quilt that gets put on the frame. I'm on the last sheet right now. It's been too hot to wear my apron that I use to keep kitty hair from transferring off my shirt onto the quilt at the front roller bar. So right now, the fans blow at full speed, and I clear the hairs off every section before I quilt it. Love our kitties, and don't mind the hairs elsewhere - but not in the longarm room, and certainly not sewn into the quilting. :)

BOMs Away - A Little Reflection in the Water

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

How are you doing? We finally got full-on spring here for the past week. Everything is AMAZINGLY green. I've been taking long walks outside lately, often in the meadowland of our area (which we are lucky enough to live right on the edge, of, so I literally just have to step through the backyard to go walking in this:

^^^My absolute FAVORITE kind of day, right there!^^^

The changing colors of the different grasses and reeds mesmerize me.  :)  Those are different plant greens, not cloud shadows. But yes, the sky is that blue, and the meadows are that green right now. These untouched photos match real-life colors remarkably well. No oversaturation here!

The other day I saw some distant neighbors had put up a display of an old wagon they'd acquired, at the top of their driveway.  Cool!

Of course, my second thought after, "Cool!" was that I should find a way to ask them if they would let me take quilt photos on it. . .

I didn't feel like sewing much at all this weekend, so I only got part of the Month 2 work done on my Water Reflections BOM:

But, hey! All the Y-seams are out of the way now.  :)

My biopsies came back negative for cancer, which is WAY good, of course! But also means more diagnostics are underway.  ::sigh:: story of my medical life. . .  Ha!   (and more on that subject later, but for now I'm turning this linky party over to you guys!)

EDIT:  OK, Here is the scoop regarding that cancer screening, and since I bet I'm not the only one who didn't know this already, let this serve as a
Public Service Announcement -

If you're in official menopause (it's been a full year since your last cycle), you should not have spotting. Not any at all. If you have any - even just a tiny bit - you need to get a GYN appointment. They'll order ultrasounds (be prepared for how physically thorough those are), and they'll likely want to run some blood tests, and do typical pap exams and all. That's because, while there is a good chance that the spotting is from nothing other than hormones wigging out for who-knows-why, it's also the very first sign of several reproductive cancers. Not pain. Not nasty stuff. Just some plain old itty bit of spotting. And say you've got uterine cancer kicking that spotting off, if it's caught right then, it would be extremely rare for you not to be completely cured of the cancer with surgery.

But how many of us who are new-ish to menopause know that even a tiny bit of spotting is something that has to be taken very seriously?

My initial ultrasounds showed traits of concern, so I had to get some biopsies taken. Happily, those came back negative for cancer, but true to form for my body and medical tests, they don't provide any answer as to why my organs are having issues. So currently I'm in the next step of tests, which is a hormone challenge designed to - essentially - reboot your system. I have 5 more days of pills, then the behavior of my body in the following 2 weeks will tell us if that re-set put sense back to things, or if I get to start through the next phase of invasive diagnostics.

In any case, it'll either be all over in a couple of weeks, or if there is some super-slick cancer lurking somewhere crazy, it's so early that it doesn't freak me out.

So tuck that in your head, menopause ladies: Spotting of any degree is not good. Call for a GYN appointment.  :)

Hi - I hope you had a nice Mother's Day this year. My girls tried to do a Zoom meeting all together, but my Internet didn't want to step up to the occasion. So, that was a bummer. It's just a weird year, eh?

I finished the Month 1 blocks for my Water Reflections BOM:

They were fun  :)

BOMs Away - Blue Bear & Water Reflections

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Hello!  :)

I finished Blue Bear of High Hopes (from Dione's 2018 Beary Colourful BOM).

It's very fun to see how much more adorableness pops out when you do the quilting, eh?

On these bears, I'm not stitching the fusible applique down separately from the quilting stage - I'm doing it with the quilting. Once in a while, I have a project (typical a kid's quilt) when I'll do this 2-in-1 approach. It's not for every project, as you'll have the satin or zig-zag stitching show on the back. But I'm fine with it for this quilt. I think kids actually love seeing the outlines on the back side, like a hide-and-seek feature. I messed with the photo editing so it would stand out a little more for you to see:

I have a hard time refraining from petting the belly and muzzle, done in Minky scraps!  (I have no problem using it for fusible applique - I just put it Minky side down on a terry towel on the ironing board, and melt the fusible from the back side. When stitching it down, greatly lowering the tension of the presser foot keeps it from shoving at the layers and prevents pulling the fusible apart.)

It was a great BOM week, because I also managed today to cut out the first 4 months on my Water Reflections BOM, taking my cutting table back from Scott before it turns into his "office" again for telecommuting tomorrow.

These months are all tucked neatly into baggies now to stay organized by my machine for the moments I can work on them.  :)

They will grow up to become this quilt one day:

AND I got all of the 24 color fabrics washed and ironed for my Jacqueline de Jonge "Fanciful Flight" kit that I bought two summers ago from Quilting by the Bay in Panama City, Florida, after they got wiped out by Hurricane Michael. It was a charity purchase! No guilt there, despite the myriad of kits awaiting my attention. . .  heh.  :)

I still have the white, the black, and the B/W striped yardages to wash and iron. It'll probably happen over the next two weeks, not right away.

I did also get some work done on Thistlepods, but there's nothing new to show you this week.
