BOM's AWAY Monday #9

Welcome to my Link-Up for BOMs Away Mondays! 

(We'd love to see the BOM you're working on lately.)

After 7 weeks of furious catch-up work on my crazy BOM list, I took this week off. Tomorrow, though, I'll be back at it, starting with Block Adventure and my guild's BOM.   :D

But I know others have advanced their BOMs and other periodic projects, so let's see what you did!!

What interval project have you got going? Weeklies are welcome along with regular projects that you’ve broken into monthly units, and –of course- true BOMs.   Share your eye candy and show off your progress since the last time you linked up! There are some wonderful monthly and weekly projects going on out there. You guys amaze me. :D

Some things must just be meant to be.


Working on the memory/tribute quilts, got the first one all quilted except for the border. . . "Honey, should I just run a cool line or pattern on the border, or put some words in there about what they did?"  "Words would definitely be cool."


So I go to the computer and brainstorm with Heather how I should word the border narrative and what dates are correct.


Find a font that can be stitched without foul language. Mess around with font size until I find the best match for the finished border width. Decide there are just too many words to hold Golden Threads up to the screen and trace, so print the pages out and cut individual words with the plan to tape them on the border for spacing and then go back and word-by-word pull the printed one off and copy it with a white quilt marker. 

So. . . I start at the beginning, taping each word on in good spacing for themselves, figuring I'll be fiddling with them all for 2 hours to get them to fit perfectly around the quilt and hopefully also have sensible corner "breaks" in the phrases. 


Get to the last four or so, and can't believe it!!  Look at this:  

Perfection the first time around. *And* the corner breaks are all awesome. No stinkin' way!   Hehe.  I know Em will love this one! God wink, for sure.

Binding half-way stitched down – about 81” square. Then a wash and embellishments. This is the first time I've used straight seams on binding, but I needed to match the switch between turquoise and navy. . .

 Around the World with Mr. Hernandez

(Twin memory quilts, about 50” square each). Getting marked for concept quilting & sandwiched for attention this week! We’ll see if I can get them both quilted. Backs and binding already cut, pressed, ready to go.

And Lori’s Irish Butterflies are on-hand by my piecing machine for when I get sick of quilting.  :D

Oh, yes! And the other two girls (those who are not going gung-ho with a dragon project around wisdom-tooth surgery recovery) are starting triplet heart quilts to get minky backs.
