BOMs Away - Christmas and Valentines

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

It's been a strange year of unsurety, ignored fears, and inner struggles that knocked me way off my normal tracks. I haven't been doing much quilting work the past several months, which is usually a large part of the core of my personal identity. I've missed that creativy and productivity, even at the same time that I've been unable to fully re-engage.

The good news is the weird thing on my elbow isn't another bout of dermal lymphoma, but the dermatologist still didn't like it, so off it went, and for the next few weeks I have an angry elbow that hollers any time I let it rest on a table/counter, or want to lie on my back to sleep. Hah! Hopefully it'll settle down soon!

This week has been a step toward recreating a balance I like better than what's been happening lately. I pinned up the "Raven's Throne" flimsy to get this quilted up for Scott for Christmas. My machine has something off in it, but it will work well if I go about 1/3 my normal free-motion speed.

So it's slower going than normal, but I should be able to finish this during Mon and Tue workdays so he doesn't see it happening. :)

Also, this morning, I got a start on block 6 of the Forever My Valentine BOM:

I got some heart cut-outs from this one that I can play with later on, or use on the back of the quilt.

I hope you are having a nice Holiday time. Ours is extremely quiet, but we are happy, so all is good.

BOMs Away - new computer lull

Boy, I apologize for missing last week! My computer died, and I'm almost finished getting the new one settled down.

Enough to put a post up for you, anyway. :)

I don't have anything of my own to share - hope you're enjoying your lead-up to the Holiday!

BOMs Away - Forever My Valentine

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

(Linky at the bottom.)

If you live in the U.S., I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. :)

I was very busy, between the holiday and the 22-25" of snow that needed to be shoveled, but all is squared away, and I managed to finish up this block for "Forever My Valentine":

Well, it's finished as much as it gets before the quilting. There are 3D wool flowers and pearl beads that get sewn on each of these blocks after the quilting has been done.

Did you manage any work on your BOM projects? :)

BOMs Away - Forever My Valentine

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!

(Linky at the bottom.)

Fourth-weekends of each month are for Forever My Valentine. I like this project - its black background is so different from everything else I have going right now. :)

Not much time for quilt work this weekend, but I did get a decent start on Block 4:

I love the interwoven hearts on this one. It'll be one of my favorites.  :)

Hope you're all doing well! It's getting full into that busy time of year.
But have you managed work on a BOM-type project lately?

BOMs Away - Goin' Surfin' Again

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Hi! This week was open since I finished the Nutcrackers quilt top, but instead of pulling a new BOM project for the 3rd week of each month, I wanted to work some more on my Surfer's Point stars from last week.

So I worked on all the feather-point patches today - four of each set, ready for star assembly next time I pull this one out.

I thought I'd made all the HST's for these two stars, but I was wrong. They need 32 each, not 24. And that brought me to a frustration point with the kitting of this one. I got it from Craftsy 18-24 months ago, so it's too late now to go to them about the shortage of fabrics that exists. Don't you hate that??  I bet the cutter for the kit(s) made the same mistake I did when I was cutting all the stars' pieces out in September.

There's probably just barely enough of the colors to do the remaining HSTs for the other 12 stars in the set, but there's definitely not going to be enough of the background fabrics. 5 feathering backgrounds were split among the 16 stars, so right now I'm pilfering from later stars for these early ones. At some point I'm going to have go buy some fat quarters of creams that play nice with what's here. Kinda took the wind out of my sails for today's piecing, so I wasn't motivated to finish the work on these. I'll have my full MoJo back next time, though. :)

BOMs Away - Surfer's PointI

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project

(Linky at the bottom.)

It was the week for working on Surfer's Point, but we had such a gorgeous weekend (mid-60s) between snow stints, that I wasn't feeling several hours at a machine.

I did make all the HST's, so those are ready to go for the next two big feathered stars.  :)

BOMs Away - Swannin' Around

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Sorry about disappearing on you last week! I started a new activity and got submerged in that. Reading for LibriVox can be just as addictive as quilting~!

I've been using their app for the past 18 months or so - it's great for finding free audibooks to listen to while quilting, piecing, weeding, washing dishes, yadda-yadda.

I thought I'd give back a little after using it for free so much, so I've started doing that.

I'm back into my regular routines now, and I made three more swans to add to my Elizabeth Hartman "Swan Island" set:

I'm really going to love this quilt!

So what did I miss? What BOM work have you pushed along?

BOMs Away - Flimsy Report: Classic Nutcrackers!! ~and~ Marissa's Kaffe Fassett Dahlia

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Wahoo!!~!

I did the last bit of hand work on a couple fellas

(broom and ladder overlap. . .gold watch chain stitching)

and. . . BAM!!

My Classic Nutcrackers (by Sue Garman) is now a quilt top!
Can you believe it?? I'm so excited. :) I love this quilt so much.

This is 55 x 66 inches. The pattern includes pieced blocks intended as an option for more border work, but I want this as a wall quilt, and it would be too large that way.

I am so very excited to reach this stage. I've been working on these guys since January 2019. They sure did make for some nice slow-stitching time in the evenings. It's all done using the back-basting needle-turn applique technique, all stitched by hand.

So! With that much work in this baby, I'll be sharing it at the next TGIFF link-up.  :)

- Also -

I never did share the finished top of Marissa's Kaffe Fasset Dinner Plate Dahlia (Judy Niemeyer pattern)!  It's been done for about 2-1/2 weeks, waiting for someone to be around to hold it up during good-enough lighting. This is 80 x 80 inches.

She really likes it, and when it's closer to its turn at the longarm, we'll go shopping together to find what she wants for the backing. First, though, I have to quilt Heather's Graduation Dahlia, my Nutcrackers, and Devon's Mandalla Dahlia.

BOMs Away - Surfer's Point & Nutcrackers

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Whew~!  These feathered starts for "Surfer's Point" are a bit finicky to put together! But the first two are sewn and up on the wall. (And I'm really happy with all the points. I had to redo about 8 of them, but considering there are, what. . .112 of them on each block, that's pretty darn lucky!)

The blocks are huge at 22 inches.

Next time, I'm going to mark the pattern templates with a few key matching points to help keep things lined up straight on the partial seam lines. There aren't any there, and it leaves things susceptible to sliding out of alignment along 8 important seams that are on the bias. Hopefully, next month's blocks will go more smoothly when I find and mark those points.

I also gave my Sue Garman Nutcrackers some attention. I was cleaning up the mess of my stash yardage tubs and found some Christmas fabrics that work marvelously with these guys. So I got a start on the sashing process.

Some of the Nutcrackers have applique pieces that overlap the sashing, so those have been back-basted for evening slow stitching.

I'm excited to see these guys come together!!

BOMs Away: Swans - From the Heart

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

The first week of the month is for my Swan Island BOM, so I made two more swans:

I really do love this project! (I don't love trying to get the camera to see the colors properly.)

Also, I realized that I never did share the center of From the Heart when it was assembled in mid-August:

I have the applique border prepped for the hand work, and it's in my applique bag behind the last of the berries for my Dahlia quilt top and Block 6 of my Octopus Garden long-term BOM. It'll be December, at least, before I get to these borders.

BOMs Away - Forever My Valentine

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

You can probably tell I really needed to get back to variety this month - weekend BOM time is perfect for that. I still focus only on the Dahlia quilts Mon-Fri, but I get to cut loose from that Sat and Sun.  :)

This weekend I pulled out my old "Forever My Valentine" BOM and got Block 5 done up:

Navarre is drawn to this project with its black background and insisted on being in a photo op. Don't you love cats?

BOMs Away - Nutcrackers and Dahlias

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

I pulled my Sue Garman Nutcrackers back out today, and did the embroidery work on 4 of the blocks.

Funny - The soldier's jacket lines don't look crooked in real life, but they sure do on the photo.

Also, this week, I got a few unit sets done up for my Dinner Plate Dahlia.

Hope you had a nice weekend, and looking forward to what you have to share. :)
