BOMs Away - Just Doors

Sorry to have no BOM work to share with you. One of the remodeling tasks that has shown to require far more time than I'd forseen has kept me occupied all week. 

I saw some French Baroque doors once that I loved - so very much! - but even if I could, I would not be able to stomach over $5000 per door for our suite. (Even if there were only 1 door, and not 3.)

So I'm approximating them myself from the over-worn, stained oak 6-panel doors we already have. 

To start, I used a texturing technique with chalk paint to get them to a new texture and ivory color, then I did a wash technique in the panels with a very light blue tint of chalk paint. They're now halfway finished getting a polycrylic finish applied. All that takes time, but has been easy to execute with the doors taken off and laid on top of saw horses in the room. 

And then I have a gazillion little architectural applique pieces to do a gilded finish on before I move into the undoubtedly finicky stage of applying them to the door panels.

Today I finished the last coat of gilding on the second set, and got the undercoat applied to the third set. It takes F O R E V E R with all the itty bitty crevaces and corners, but looks great.

And it was tremedously gratifying when a tiling craftsman was in for an estimate, saw this door in the works, and said, "Wow, those are nice. Very pretty. Good work."

I'm afraid that task is going to have to be done by us <<me>>, as well.  Big Sigh. I'm so over all of this.

In the meantime, lots of door work happened this week, even though the price was nothing in quilting but a tiny applique work to begin another nutcracker, hopefully to be shared next week.
