BOMs Away Monday - Hanmadang Week

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Zero quilting work at all here - lots of running around to get 34 young professional athletes from South Korea to their various rehearsals, seminars, classes, and meals

These young people are consumate professionals - really remarkable to watch, both in practice and when they put on their full show at the arena.

We also had our own competing to do at the tournament.  :)

And I even got lucky with a rare moment of rest at home, joined by a mother with her twin Bambies who let me half-nap on my side of the glass door while they rested on our lawn patio.  :)

Have you been able to do any BOM work lately?  I'm itching to get back to mine!

BOMs Away - K Tiger Edition

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Running a little behind here - busy days right now as the South Korean Demo Team, K-Tigers, arrives tomorrow for the U.S. Open Hanmadang. Our homestay families will be hosting them for one week. Things are in place now, and all that is left for me is to make sure all catering happens for the team's lunches and answer/resolve family questions or issues as they come up during the week.

The K Tigers are great, and they're always a big hit at Hanmadang. They're all 2nd-4th degree blackbelts, and while they compete in pure Taekwondo, they also perform with music in a martial-arts dancing style - and small groups have done quite a few K-Pop videos, some of them very sophisticated. Here's one of their small-group videos so you can see what I mean. The international travel team has 31 members, and their top show is truly amazing, lasting something like an hour, with dance numbers interspersed by exhibition board breaking and kicking.

No BOM work has happened at all this past week, but I did finish the 5 team jackets for our Team Creative Poomsae.

Four of us, together with a friend, put together a demanding poomsae that we really enjoy, although a higher level of technical expertise than we Caulkinses possess would be ideal. The music is awesome, but frenetic, and my 50yo hamstrings don't like to allow full extension of side kicks and roundhouses on a lightning-fast beat!  Hah~!

We called our team Yong Do, which is supposed to mean "Way of the Dragon," and our music is "I'm a Dragon" by Apashe & Sway. Hopefully, we'll get someone to catch a video for us at Hanmadang on Friday.

Back to BOMs:

I may or may not have a nutcracker to share next week - he only needs one more piece stitched down, so hopefully I will.  ;D

How about you?
Have you done any BOM work lately?

BOMs Away - The Chimney Sweep Nutcracker

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project

(Linky at the bottom.)

Here we are with the 5th Classic Nutcracker from Sue Garman's quilt pattern, the Chimney Sweep:

I had fun with the little lamb, using some white cotton velvet that I had. Yep, that's needle turned like the rest.

Love it!  Sweet little thing will get its face when I have the set finished and then do all their embroidery details.

How about you?
Have you done any BOM work lately?

BOMs Away - a Nutcracker King at the Lighthouse

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Despite a ridiculous sunburn, Scott and I had a really nice time this week - we spent several days at a bed & breakfast in a working lighthouse on the south shore of Lake Ontario.

Braddock Point Light House, originally built in 1893, is now a privately-owned B&B. It is still a working navigation light that is commissioned by the Coast Guard.

It was the perfect get-away in a charming, quiet locale, with wonderful hosts and delicious breakfasts, all in a perfectly-balanced Victorian setting.

It is an old house, without central A/C, but the hosts keep individual units in each of the bedrooms, so our room was nice and cool during the unusual heat wave they had.

The lake was peaceful to watch, with hardly any human traffic to disturb the wildlife, except on the 4th of July. We were treated to several passings of a small flock of trumpeter swans, some Canadian geese, and many other types of birds and jumping fish.

The dining furniture was amazing. The china hutch, table/chairs, and a matching novelty cabinet were all originally a dowry set for a woman in late-19th century Brittany, but it looks made to order for this lighthouse! Can you see the carved columns that are lighthouse towers with retro-fitted flickering bulbs and everything? The people carved into either end of the hutch and on each chair were all figures from the bride's family tree. I was completely enchanted by it.

We were able to climb up the tower one day for an official tour from the Lightkeeper.

Bit of a duck to get back down!

And they shared their 4th of July barbeque with us.  :)

We took some nice strolls around the area and enjoyed the ambiance of the lighthouse's yards and patios. Keeper Don works hard on them, and it pays off.

Scott read a lot in the Adirondack chairs, and I did a lot of relaxing applique stitching on my Classic Nutcrackers BOM while we were there. The Nutcracker King is all finished.

He, of course, wanted a photo op fitting of his dignity:

Braddock Point lighthouse is one of the very last to have the U.S.L.H.E. designation. Later lighthouses are U.S.L.H.S. (The U.S. Lighthouse Establishment was replaced with the U.S.L.H. Service.)

I also got a lot of work done on the Shepherd, the Chimney Sweep, and a wee bit started on the Gardener.  (As I highly prefer the back-basting method, sometimes I'll work ahead on another block if I've basted on all the pieces in a given "layer" for my primary block, if I have a lot of stitching time in one day. The needle-turn always works easier if you can let the pieces marinate overnight.) This next guy just needs face details, his beard, and the sheep's head:

It was a very nice visit, and I hope to be able to return to the lighthouse some day in another season, to catch a different feel of the lake.

I hope you are having a nice summer (or winter, for those in the southern hemisphere).  Have you done any BOM work lately?

BOMs Away - Summer Adventure, the Quiet Way

Welcome to the link-up for BOMs Away Mondays!
Where we share what we're doing on a BOM-type project
so they don't stall out in UFO-land!
(Linky at the bottom.)

Oh, man, I forgot to post last night. Was packing for a nice, relaxing work week away with Scott. We're going to stay at a lighthouse on Lake Ontario for a few days, and then spend a night at Niagara, Ontario. Sorry I don't have any BOM progress to share! Catch you next week, as I'm taking plenty of applique work with me to sit quitely on the lakeshore and slow stitch.

Really looking forward to this!
