BOMs Away Monday - Fiesta Mexico debut

Welcome to the Link-Up for BOMs Away Mondays!

We'd love to see the BOM you're working on lately.
This week's link-up is at the bottom of the post.

Are you ready to see the "enormous" amount of BOM work I did today?  ;D   The exciting thing is that it's for a brand new block of the month project. A real new one that started being delivered this month. The quilt is "Fiesta Mexico" by Karen Kay Buckley:

And the first block is this one:

(It's 11x48, finished)

So, I washed all my fabric pieces:

Ironed them:

Utilized my extra-supreme sized lightbox:

And traced the back of my fabric to be able to start the back-basting applique process (going with my stand-by favorite method for this block):

And that's the sum total of what I accomplished. I'll put it in my handwork tote, so we'll see how much progress it has for the next 4th-Sunday sharing. It's not the only thing in there, so don't hold your breath!

Oh!!  I almost forgot! Check it out, you guys: My daughters and I passed our first Taekwondo belt test yesterday, so we are no longer pure white ghost babies.  ;D

Some of my favorite shots:

Devon getting her Black Belt Club gear bag from Master Lee
(We've worked very hard these six weeks and earned an early invitation into that program, so we just graduated from the Basic Course.)

Marissa breaking her yellow belt board

Getting our new belts from Master Pejo (the first U.S. Taekwondo champion)

And finding surprising equipment in our gear bags! LOL
I cannot begin to imagine myself in one of these, let alone using it!

Now back to quilting!

Did you manage to get any BOM work done lately?

  2. You are a busy lady! I have a super sized lightbox like yours! BTW, my DIL and GD both have their black belts in Taekwondo. In fact, I think my GD is a double black belt. Don't mess with them! My son and GS have both been involved too, but not as much. They have a great instructor couple.

    1. Hi, Ruth! (I replied to the email for this comment, but it got kicked back - hopefully you'll see it here).

Isn't it a marvelous light box? No shifting of everything when it's bigger than a dinner plate, although you're limited in time during the winter. ;D

Way to go to your family's black belts - that's neat that your granddaughter's a second dan. We're super fortunate in having wonderful instructors and access to Taekwondo "big wigs" here in the Colorado Springs area. It's an amazing thing to be a part of when the instructors are exceptional. It says something when even Marissa is always eager to go to class!

  4. Well, look at you and your girls. A big congrats to all three of you. Well done!
As for that new BOM, good luck there. It looks like a huge undertaking - but oh, so beautiful.

  5. Our two sons both earned Black Belts in Taekwondo. Great programs for youth and adults alike, because they not only focus on physical health, but also respect and commitment to family and community. I spent Many Many hours at those lessons.

  7. I LOVE that quilt - my guild just completed it as our Raffle Quilt for our show. It is such an amazing, difficult quilt - you can see our version http://thetiltedquilt.blogspot.com/p/quilty-bucket-list.html Good luck!!

  9. Wow! That is one fantastic BOM you have embarked on. It's gorgeous. I'm so looking forward to watching it grow. Got to get myself one of those Supreme sized light boxes! Or maybe I just need to clean one I've already got. ;o)) Congratulations on getting your yellow belt... you are on your way to being a quilter no one will want to mess with. More power to you and your girls.
