I can finally - FINALLY - do feathers that come out acceptably instead of looking like a kindergartner did them. :D
The funny thing is, I can only do them if I put in the little curly-q on every other plume. Try it without, and they all go catty-wumpus.
I figure once I get all the blue of this quilt done, I'll be much more comfortable and proficient with them and ready to try another variation. :)
I can't tell you how happy this breakthrough makes me after almost a year of disappointing attempts! Give me some time, and they'll look even better. For now, I'm thrilled with them.

Congratulations! I love stitching feathers. You are going to have soooooo much fun!
ReplyDeleteThey look great! What fun to be able to do that.
ReplyDeleteYip, I do them one way, and one way only too. Something to do with the brain and the way it works (or doesn't work) I am sure.
ReplyDeleteThose are pretty feathers! I like the curlicue too.
ReplyDeleteWoo, congratulations! I still can't get there, your's look great and I like the little swirl.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you found your signature style feather! Isn't it great to finally battle the plumes and win. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteWooHoo!!! They look great! Persistence pays off. There are so many variations of feathers to try, this will be just the beginning.
ReplyDeletehehe That looks great! I giggled when I read about the curly cue! Don't be offended if I call you a nerd, ok? I have little "brain" things with my quilting too. :)
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Great job! The curly que just makes them more yours. ;)
ReplyDeleteI like the little curly que on the end! Great job.
ReplyDeleteOh wow....you are doing wonderfully!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job Lyn!!! Everyone's feathers have their own "stamp" to them - your's have a little curly-que :*) I need to get busy and practice mine again. I haven't done any FMQ in quite a while.
ReplyDeleteYour feathers look great! They curl through the blocks so nicely. And I like the curlicue.
ReplyDeleteGirl you are rockin those feathers!! Great job and I love that log cabin!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous. I've been working on them forever. Do you use a frame?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't if feel good? Congratulations, they look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteFantastic, Lyn. Haven't been brave enough to try these myself yet but yours are inspiring me to give it a go! Thanks for sharing, Jen :)
ReplyDeleteHey, whatever works for you -- they look great to me!
ReplyDeletethey look fantastic! Maybe I should try that...lol
ReplyDeleteI am also jealous I can never get them to look good. Did you trace them first or did you just start stitching?
ReplyDeleteI think your feathers look great. Trust me, if any bird had to fly with the feathers I make free motion, they'd be nose-diving down to the ground ker-plunk!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations - your feathers look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLooks very nice. I liked. A hug, Yasmin
ReplyDeleteSee? Now hasn't everyone told you, practice makes perfect? You'll only continue to get better, and before you know it, you'll be making two curved feathers next to each other. Way to persevere!
ReplyDeleteThey look fantastic! I love them on the log cabins! Good job finding a method that works for you, you're giving them a unique, signature look!
ReplyDeleteThese are looking great! Congratulations. I keep practicing my feathers too and hope to improve over time. Practice, practice practice!
ReplyDeleteThey look great and they add a classic touch to your quilt. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteGosh! I think you do a really great job on freathers.
ReplyDeleteOh Lyn, they look fabulous! I wish I could master them. Perhaps I should try your curly cue nethod :-)
