I hope you're having a nice weekend - I'm kinda excited to have quite a bit of BOM work to share this week.

Today I pulled my "Star Crazy" box out for the first time since I'd finished the final blocks last July. This UFO is definitely an Oldie-But-Goodie - one of the more intense projects I have that I have to take long breaks from at times.

I was able to get in a good several hours worth of work:

The center is assembled and ready for the fancy-pants border work that will follow. I also got the first set of HST border strips assembled, and you can see here what the whole quilt will look like - 84 inch square quilt.

There is some *serious* assembly ahead of me, but I'm happy to be on the final stretch to this quilt reaching flimsy status!


My morning sewing time this month has been given over to my old "Listen with Your Eyes" UFO, and this week I finished the final set of checkerboards, the turquoise/green arcs:

Just about every evening I get a bit of applique time while I catch a show with Scott, and my second Nutcracker has all his pieces now - embroidery bits on each of these will all happen later.

BOMs Away - & - Hands2Help for Little Lambs Foundation for Kids

This week's link is below

Today is the link-up for our Hands2Help quilts. I'd signed up in March to participate with this annual coordinated community service project, choosing the Little Lambs Foundation for Kids this year.

I've made 3 sweet little quiltlets, each in a cute fabric and meant to feature superb tactile comfort in a highly portable size. This fits the bill perfectly for the organization's use, which is to go into a backpack with supplies and comfort items for kids having to go into foster care.

One lap quilt (~ 28" square) with sweet kitties and a glorious-feeling dove gray minkee backing/self binding edge, and two comfort clutchies (~ 19 x 22 inches) with Peter Rabbit flannel backed by a cerise quilting cotton and bound with the slick satin edge that kids love to handle and pet. They are washed and ready to go to the post office tomorrow.

Without intending to line two of my quilting focii up so perfectly, the block of the month work that I have ready to share this week coordinates perfectly, coming from my "From the Heart" BOM kit. Accordingly, here is this week's BOMs Away post:

 Block 2 has been hand appliqued, with bunnies that match the buns on the two flannel clutchy quilts I made, and all the love "From the Heart" that those three quilts are being sent with. I hope somehow the kids can sense that.

I hope you had a nice Mother's Day weekend. Scott and I drove up to Nebraska to visit his parents. I got home last night to some very sweet kiss-of-pink tulips from our youngest.  :)

The only BOM work I have to report is this set of blue arcs for my Listen with Your Eyes quilt that was supposed to be made in April.  ;D

Just one set left to go! And then some "Beetlejuice strips."

BOMs Away - The Little Soldier

Hey, there, folks!  Please forgive me about missing BOMs Away last week - Scott and I got absorbed in doing some super-cleaning and switching-around of house function in several areas, and I totally forgot to do a link-up for you. That was all on me.

This week I have "The Little Soldier" to share. 

He is the first of the twelve classic nutcrackers in Sue Garman's pattern. I am saving the embroidery to do when all the blocks have been appliqued, so I'll know what-all threads and embellishments I'll want to buy. His nose will be waiting quite a while!  :D

Those eyebrows are the tiniest things I have ever done in the back-basting method, coming in at less than 1/8 inch wide! I'm super happy with how they turned out. The cruncher teeth were done mostly by paper-piecing, and I'll probably end up replacing them with a second try at it, as I didn't leave enough on the edges for as good a turn as I like to have. I suspect that my next nutcracker's teeth unit will be a lot happier to me, and if that actually turns out to be the case, I'll redo this one. If not, I'll leave it as "good enough," since you really can't see what I'm talking about unless you have it in hand and are looking quite closely.

OMG, UFO for May

OK, so April slammed me, between struggling to find a productive, yet non-Lupus activating, balance between the tougher workouts of Black Belt level at Taekwondo, doing customer quilts, doing my own quilting, moving the house around to find setups I like better, and finishing learning licensing, bookkeeping, and taxes handling for a new business.

I did not get to work one tiny bit on the April UFO. That was supposed to be Devon's quilt. I'm not putting it back away in the closet, though. Hopefully I can do at least a tiny bit on it some time this month.


The UFO for May is #12, which is my "Set Sail" that I love so much. I will figure out the quilting tomorrow and get to work on any marking or stencil-making that needs to happen. My domestic machine has been in shop for servicing, so hopefully that'll be finished tomorrow or Friday so I can whip a back together. . . Or was that backing a wide fabric. . . . oooo!  Wouldn't that be nice?! Have to pull it out to see. This is a nice, big, probably king size top!

My OMG for April was to quilt up #392 for The 70,273 Project, which did happen. I just didn't get a post done up to link that. It is also my OMG for May - I need to bind it and get a label and hanging sleeve stitched on, then it will be sent back and added to the collection!
