BOM's Away Monday - 26 Mar 2012 - So crazy, Can't even keep my days straight. . .

Oh, wow! I cannot believe that an entire Monday (and the Sunday before it!) passed by without me realizing I hadn't done BOMs Away until seeing emails from cool bloggers making sure I'm OK.

I'm just crazy busy - 

Got the outside back into shape - weeds are gone (well, from the landscaping - lawn still has issues), driveway and bricks are pressure-washed:

Picked up two daughters for their spring breaks, helping me do things like: Resurrect the monster truck that's been parked for 5 years - ready to pay for the transmission repairs and new tires so it can help in the move and be used in the MOUNTAINS!  :D

Pack most of the house and get it into storage so we can go up on the market:

And somehow still get coursework finished on time:

The only quilt work that has been done since last BOM's Away is to locate the next set that I will finish assembling:

WOWZA!!!


"Patriots in Petticoats" just got home from Margaret's quilting studio, and her work is exquisite. She did a marvelous job of enhancing the period represented in this reproduction BOM, and her magic turned a project that I was so-so about (while the historian in me was delighted with the connections and stories of the ladies represented, it's just not my colors/fabric styles) into a quilt that I LOVE!!!

Margaret has posted gorgeous shots that I could never duplicate on this foggy morning, so do jump over and see her write-ups about it: "Patriots & Petticoats is Going Home" and two previous posts. Can't wait to get its binding put on!


I have to share at least one more shot, because she does such beautiful work. If you're looking for a talented longarmer with a nice, short turn-around and customer-friendly shipping, I recommend you keep Margaret of Quilts of Love on your list.

You really should check out her blog. Her personal quilts are amazing in both design and execution. It's no wonder she's an award-winning quilter.


You'll get to see this once more when I have the binding and label finished. I should do its hanging sleeve, too, while I know where its fabrics are! Give me a couple of weeks - life is CHAOS for me between coursework and getting the house ready for market. This baby is getting a properly hand-stitched job, and that will take time right now.




Ok, this is fun because a ton of Baby Janes that have been floating around my foundation-piecing and applique areas came to fruition earlier this week, so now I'm almost caught up with the BOM pace for it:

BOM's Away Monday - 11 Mar 2012 - Dreadful Travel Days

Hope your weekend was better than mine! (Although I'm a super happy Mama with one little birdie back home at last for Spring Break.)

Heather has THE WORST luck with flights getting monstrously delayed and cancelled. A series of plane malfunctions and nonavailability got her stranded overnight on Saturday (United did put her up and feed her nicely as that was their fault), and then the make-up flight yesterday - the only one with a seat available anywhere near our area before Wednesday - was part of the fall-out in a nightmare roll-down of "CANCELLED" on the entire board due to weather yesterday morning. There she was, stuck until Wednesday some 650 miles away from home, un-housed and un-fed because weather is not their fault, and too young to be able to rent a car to get herself home. 

On our way to rescue her, we drove under a cell that looked like this. 
You could see the wind sheer that had obviously shut down the entire airport 
(and I'm happy it was). The lowest level, only about 15 stories up, 
was racing across the sky northward while another layer just above it 
was racing eastward. Those of you living in tornado country know 
how carefully my ears were glued to the weather station 

and my eyes were peeled!

Her boyfriend, one of our cats, and I were just finishing driving the 2 hours to the intended modified location to get her when the roll-down happened. As we were headed the right direction on the right interstate toward where she was stranded, we just kept on going the other 8 hours to get to her. Scooped her up at the airport, turned around, and 20 non-stop driving hours later, stumbled into our home. (Her young man had obligations today that he had to be back for, so we couldn't stay overnight anywhere.)

The agonies of having only smaller airports all around us and being a prime spring break destination. . . 

So lucky to have lived 5 miles from this for the last 15 years!

But it's all worth it! Gonna enjoy my Girl's company this week.  :D  Sometimes, you just gotta go the extra mile (or several hundred) for your kiddo. On my Facebook, I see:

Needless to say, not a stitch of sewing was accomplished this weekend. "Amaretto Cottage" is all together, though, as you can see on the post before this one.  :D

TGIFF 9 Mar 2012 - It's Finished! Off the BOM list! :D

This sucker is the biggest thing I have ever made. Can't even lay it out fully in the house, and as it's raining right now, this is what we get. 

Amaretto flimsy - 112" square!!!

It's absolutely stunning in real life - rich colors, pretty design on-point within a gorgeous floral mitered border. Big hit at guild yesterday. Drat the rain.


Now I need to put together the biggest back sewn in the southeast U.S.  Well - first I have to obtain the fabric. Something like 11 yards of it. Egads!  Then this baby will go to my local longarmer, because there is no way I'm going to shove it through my domestic machine. I contemplated using a quilt-as-you-go method, but as I'm not yet a pro at it, I shied away from those diagonal joins. Last thing I want on this beauty is for its drape to be all nasty.


But, hey - my binding is ready to go!

BOM's Away Monday - 4 Mar 2012 & FNQG Quilt Show

Well, this is all that got done this week, rather than getting Amaretto Cottage all finished and taken off the BOM list. (This week's linky is at the bottom of this post. Oops - I fixed the link-up so it's live now.)  :D

Third corner is mostly constructed, but can't work on sewing until tomorrow.

The reason for little progress is that I had 2 demos to do at our guild's quilt retreat, as well as working in the Flying Needles 2012 quilt show. Ate up all my non-masters time. 

This was my very first show to have quilts in, so that was exciting!
