Quilt ADD in therapy

Other than my family, the passion of my life is quilting. An eclectic, I love a wide variety of styles and techniques encompassing both machine and hand work. I am a longarm quilter who can work for you. I enjoy any style, from pantographs to all-over to full custom, ranging from traditional to modern. I love bringing vintage tops to life and am willing to work with a challenging quilt top. Instagram: lyncc_quilts

My WIP 19 - Marissa at the Frame :D

I am still super excited for yesterday’s finish (Sailing with the Flying Needles)!!

At this moment, the top WIP is Marissa’s Minky Checkerboard.

She actually sewed this top two summers ago, and this summer when we took it off the hanging rack to get it quilted, she grimaced. “Why did I choose *those* fabrics??”  She didn’t want to quilt it - really doesn't like the colors. But she agreed that it would be fun to look back at what she liked when she was younger and see how much things had changed. And I wanted that idle quilt frame and short arm to FINALLY actually start working (long dorky story of why it’s not been in use, we’re not going to say how long it has sat there), and this was the perfect jump-start flimsy.

Only it’s not so flimsy!  Minky alternates with quilting cotton on the front, and the back is minky.  But this is not “real” minky – it is the cheaper stuff you find on sale at JoAnn’s. Coarser fibers makes for a slightly stiffer, bulkier feel than what I now call Real Minky.  And the seams are very, very bulky at the corners. Not nice to needles!  lol

So, this quilt has issues. It looks like you’d expect when an 11yo stubbornly refuses to let Mom talk her out of using minky for her first piecing project. But as a 13yo she readily grasped the concept of having a finished first crazy-made quilt to chuckle over later in life. We’ve been able to tame a fair bit of the slack areas down as we go along, but there are still bulgy parts. Live and learn. Sometimes it really is good to listen to Mom. Other times, you just love it so much that it doesn’t matter if it’s not perfect.  :D

And, by the way: This is how you eat pretzels during the summer!

  2. How fun that you and your daughter are quilting together! Even if it isn't her favorite I'm glad she is sticking with it. Not sure I would have done that when I was her age.

  8. Loved your post and I can't imagine quilting minky. Hope you'll have some photos quilting it as I have a short arm with a quilting frame that has never been used (long story too).

  9. I like your heading title for the UFO's. Firing range indeed. I need one for mine.
And to answer the question you asked me, pirate shoe bags are nothing special, just shoe bags for use in your luggage to keep your cloths clean and in this case made from the Pirate line from Riley Blake. I added gold grommets and cord to make it a bit more tempting. ARGGGGG matey.

  10. Minky is so lusious and so annoying! I feel for you! I started making baby quilts with the name embroidered on the minky side and then flannel on the other. Simple blankets to make expect the dang minky would make the blanket bubble. I ended up spray basting the minky to some white flannel as a stablizer and then quilting straight lines across both. Then after that was done, adding the flannel topper and turning the inside out. It made the whole thing really nice and the added weight of the flannel in the inside makes the blanket so super cozy.
Thanks for visiting me over at Anne Made too! I finally got three of the dozens of pouches done! Yeah me!
